3rd Entry-Non verbal communication

How do you tell if a girl is attracted to you? Most girls will not tell you that they are attracted to you as they are simply too shy. Now, you are attracted to a girl who is your good friend. However, you are afraid that she may not reciprocate your feelings and it may ruin your friendship with her. So should you confess to her or not? In this case, you really have to pay attention her nonverbal cues.

#1: Oculesics: The Eye Contact
When a girl is attracted to you or she is interested in you, she will look at you, hold her glance for a few seconds longer than usual, then she will look away, and look back at you with a gentle smile.

#2: Proxemics: The space/distance

According to E.T Halls, individuals will subconsciously perceive a distance that is appropriate for different relationships. They also establish a comfortable distance for personal interaction and nonverbally define this as their personal space. When a girl is attracted to you, she will let you into her more intimate personal space.

#3: Kinesics: The Subconscious Mirroring

When a girl is attracted to you, she will subconsciously copy your body posture. This is because in our subconscious mind, we believed that like body is equivalent to like minded.

#4: Haptics: The Touch

When a girl is attracted to you, she will tend to give you a gentle touch during her conversation with you.

    Woah! Thanks for the tips. It's amazing that such subtle actions could mean so much. Especially when these actions tend to be social norms nowadays that sometimes we tend to overlook them.

    Here's some more "clues". These are some signs i have noticed, many of them relate to a woman being nervous in your presence.

    1)Playing with her hair.

    2)Playing with her pen. Sign of nervousness

    3)Tapping her feet or drumming her fingers. Another sign of nervousness

    4)Taking quickly and nonstop

    5)Laughing at your jokes even when it's not funny. Approval-seeking behaviour, dead giveaway.

    Hey!
    Well i have to disagree with you with the non verbal cues you mentioned.
    Firstly, the touch can be just a friendly gesture from the girl and so it doesn't mean anything.
    Second, the subconscious mirroring can be developed due to the prevalence of time spent together. It can also occur with friends too!
    Next, the proxemics. Maybe the girl just wanted to be close friends with the guy? By giving more personal space doesn't mean the girl is attracted to the guy but trust that they can speak freely and openly.
    I guessed oculesics is the only thing that doesn't lie.
    Eventually it all depends on the girl, if she really likes the guy she will show it with little actions that cannot be explained.

    hmm, well i disagree about the touch gesture too. i feel that some people are more touchy in general. to them, it is just a friendly gesture. hehz, guys shouldnt read too much into it sometimes :D

    YA YA!! other than all these, i think when a girl likes a guy, she will tend to tease a guy either physically or verbally. :)

    I think that when a girl likes a guy, no matter how she tries to hide her feelings, her body language will tell it all. I think that other than the above 4 cues, when a girl likes a guy, she will tend to giggle or laugh at all his jokes though it is not funny at all. But I am not sure what you can classify this under.

    Sometimes nonverbal cues can be misleading too. I mean the girl may have no interest in you but she is displaying the above nonverbal cues because that's the way she usually behaves. So guys, I suggest you better not just depend on these nonverbal cues to conclude if a girl is interested in you.

    This is really interesting. I didn't know that when a girl like someone, she will copy the actions of that someone. I shall observe the nonverbal cues of people more often=D

    Hmm...these interpretations are quite true to a certain extent. It all boils down to sensing these signals when they appear. As a guy, I can affirm that these are the tell-tale signs that a girl is attracted to a guy. No doubts about it! ;)

    @Anonymous(is this Guo Hao? or XJ's friend?) Anyway, yes, some people are more touchy by nature. Therefore the above is just a guideline. However, I think that it is less likely for a girl to touch a guy if she is uninterested in the guy. After all, we live in an Asian culture where girls are generally more reserve.
